Reading is a skill for life, not just the classroom. Reading for enjoyment is now a key area of the National Curriculum and teachers are looking for different ways of teaching reading that take account of children’s changing tastes. This course will look at how to use different resources such as wordless picture books, comics, apps, films and music to engage and challenge children as readers. Key concepts will be covered including – a reinvented guided reading carousel - the use of content domains for questioning – planning for best outcomes – encouraging reading around school. Participants will leave with improved knowledge and a bank of ideas to start their journey creating a culture of reading across the school.
