Persistent Absence Changes

Change to persistent absence

Attendance policies and practice will need to be reviewed in preparation for the changes to the threshold for persistent absence (PA) which was announced by the DfE in a recent letter to local authorities.

Persistent absence will reduce from 15% to 10% from September 2015. While there is little published about it so far, you will find the change confirmed here (page 71).

The DfE recognises the successful work undertaken by schools and academies to improve overall attendance rates and reduce the numbers of PA pupils and now wants to increase the level of challenge. For the academic year 2014 to 2015, the DfE will publish PA rates at both 15% and 10%.
