Deirdre McConnell leads our Therapeutic Interventions team. She is a qualified teacher, art psychotherapist and experienced clinical supervisor, and leads a team of drama therapists, art therapists, horticulture therapists, dance movement psychotherapists, music therapists, and play therapists.

She is passionate about providing creative and high quality therapeutic interventions in schools. Deirdre has presented papers on art therapy at several national and international conferences, is an honorary lecturer at the University of Manchester and guest lecturer at Chester University and the Northern Art Psychotherapy MA course in Sheffield.

In Manchester people have been amazingly resourceful in their responses to the horrendous attack on Monday night. This week we have seen how people have rallied to support one another in all sorts of ways - helping each other in times of crisis is a natural response in how we deal with trauma. Moving real life stories abound.

Name a champion for mental health in school

I could hardly believe it. Recently, I was contacted by Blackpool Aspire Academy’s ambassador for mental health. What a wonderful role and title! An experienced pastoral caseworker for some years, Sandra, was given this role and title to champion mental health in her school.
