In March 2015, the Coalition Government brought out Reading: the next steps, their strategy to continue to improve reading skills and eradicate illiteracy in primary age children.

One element of this plan was the announcement of £10,000 grants for schools with excellent phonics practice to partner and support other schools.

Eight groups of schools led by top-performing primaries will access the funding. Lead schools have been announced this week.
