NEETs - not such a clear picture

New research by The Learning and Work Institute for Impetus-PEF, a charity supporting disadvantaged young people in the UK, has been published this week in the Youth Jobs Index.

The report reveals an average of 1.3 million (17%) 16 to 24 year olds spend six months out of education, employment or training (NEET), providing a different and more worrying picture than Government statistics suggest.

Particular focus is placedĀ on the length of time young people are NEET and how long it takes them to get find employment once they have been NEET.

It is vital that strategies are identified to support the most disengaged young people into education, training or employment, including: mentoring; effective careers guidance; and one to one intensive support.
