The long-awaited standard for CPD has been published and is a comprehensive and research-based piece of work.
What sits behind the standard are detailed reviews of effective CPD and teaching in schools undertaken by the likes of Philippa Cordingley of CUREE and the Teacher Development Trust. The standard will help schools to review their CPD strategy to support effective CPD that makes a difference.
The headlines are welcome; effective professional development should: have a focus on improving and evaluating pupil outcomes; be underpinned by robust evidence and expertise; include collaboration and expert challenge; be sustained over time; and have senior leadership support.
