Changes to the OFSTED inspection regime

Following public consultation Ofsted has confirmed significant changes to the education inspection regime from September 2015.

Ofsted will inspect good schools, Further Education and skills providers, three-yearly. Inspections will be short, focusing on ensuring maintained standards; and that leaders have identified key areas of concern and have the capacity to address them. Outstanding schools remain exempt from routine inspection.

There will be a common approach to all education inspections to ensure greater consistency, with new handbooks for each remit reflecting the needs of different phases. Full inspections of every non-association independent school will be conducted by July 2018. Ofsted also plans a more rigorous recruitment and performance management regime for inspectors.

Look out for the new guidance in the summer.
