Early years education continues to improve but what about those from disadvantaged backgrounds?
Ofsted’s Early years annual report 2015 clearly indicates that education in the early years is now better than ever. However, the question remains about whether the gap between disadvantaged children and their peers is narrowing. According to the report, although disadvantaged children’s development is continuing to improve, the attainment gap is not yet narrowing. To address this Sir Michael Wilshaw intends to encourage schools to take more two year-olds from disadvantaged backgrounds and to work more closely with other local early years providers.
