Mental health issues can affect children and young people’s academic progress in school.

Developing pastoral systems which raise awareness, reduce stigma and offer evidence-based 1:1 work with pupils is key. Counselling and therapeutic interventions are effective.

The latest guidelines are useful for all schools with or without current access to counselling services. Relevant also, is new government funding for mental health initiatives offering life-changing support for children.
