Mental health awareness week, 11 to 17 May 2015, provided the perfect chance for schools to reflect on how they are actively promoting children’s emotional health and wellbeing.
Of course the link between good emotional health and academic success is now widely recognised but developing a consistent whole school approach is never easy. To help address this, Public Health England published a report in March highlighting eight principles and encouraging senior leaders to reflect on key questions that will support them to protect and promote emotional health and wellbeing. Recently updated DfE guidance on mental health and behaviour in schools is also useful. Review it here.
