Have clear rules and standards of behaviour so managers and employees know what is expected of them


Where possible, deal with matters of minor misconduct informally


Deal with issues promptly and do not unreasonably delay meetings and decisions


Carry out the necessary investigations to establish the facts before deciding whether to initiate disciplinary proceedings


Ensure employees informed of allegations and have opportunity to respond


Allow employees the right to be accompanied at any formal investigation or disciplinary meetings 


Be mindful of the impact of the Equality Act 2010


Ensure those hearing cases and appeals have the authority to act 


Ensure decision makers act consistently and follow the disciplinary procedure


Allow employees the right to appeal any formal disciplinary decisions
