Top Tips for Restructure & Redundancy

If the school has adopted a Restructure/Redundancy Policy, ensure the Policy is followed

Ensure the Governing Body has approved the proposals before you formally start the process

Prepare a clear, sound business case for the proposed structure changes

Prepare existing and revised structure charts with job descriptions where appropriate

Produce a timeline accounting for notice periods and school holidays

Financial implications need to be understood, including redundancy payments and pension costs

Consult with Trade Unions and affected employees at the earliest opportunity

Ensure consultation is genuine and meaningful and keep a record 

Consider ways to avoid making compulsory redundancies, including asking for volunteers and job matching

Ensure any selection process is applied fairly and reasonably and takes account of the Equality Act 2010
