The barriers to school attendance are complex with poor attendance often linked to the emotional wellbeing and health of a child, challenging family circumstances or safeguarding concerns.
We acknowledge that every school and academy is unique, your needs are varied yet specific to you, and important to us. The expertise of our attendance advisers enables us to work with you to reduce pupil absence whilst supporting pupils and parents. We have a strong ethos of building capacity in schools through on-site support providing strategic thinking, training, supervision, and an attendance helpline.
We offer flexibility and personalisation, ensuring that the support you receive is appropriate and effective. Schools can purchase a clear annual contract for specific interventions or short term spot purchases for one off requirements.
The nature of this work often varies, and can be constantly reviewed throughout your service agreement.

Joanne Poole, Vice Principal Woodside Academy
The Attendance Adviser has become a very important part of our Academy Community Team. He is professional and approachable. He is fair, assertive and direct with parents and doesn’t avoid having difficult conversations. The end of term report was exceptionally useful and this was shown to our Board of Directors. Our whole school attendance data is on an upwards trend, above national targets
Our attendance helpline is a telephone and email support service connecting you straight to experts who will understand your query, and provide you with:
- answers to your questions
- proven solutions to attendance problems
- access to the latest information and legislation
Our helpline provides a confidential forum for you to ask questions on attendance strategy, procedure, legislation and good practice.
This supports Education Welfare concerns and helps you to safeguard your pupils and improve attendance; on an individual basis and across your organisation.
The attendance helpline runs for a year from the date of agreement, and is open from Monday to Friday between 08:45 and 12:00 in term time.
J Fisher, Attendance Support Worker Newall Green Primary School
It's like having a really sound insurance policy. You don't use it every day but when you do need it, you know it's going to do exactly what it says.
Attendance Helpline Plus
Many schools require infrequent but reliable short-term support. With our Helpline Plus offer, you can buy additional days of Attendance support as part of your Helpline agreement. These can be used whenever you want throughout your Helpline year, and ultimately is more cost effective than spot purchasing additional days' support.
If you employ your own attendance team we provide first-class casework supervision delivered by advisers with recognised qualifications in professional supervision. They can help staff to prioritise and resolve dilemmas in a safe, constructive environment to ensure best practice both strategically and practically.

I have been impressed by the professionalism and certain impact measures that have been achieved through your working with BBEC
We will work with you to conduct a thorough and detailed review of your current attendance policy, practices and procedures which will identify areas of strength and those for potential development.
Your school attendance assessment will be presented in a detailed report, and will offer guidance as to how to improve punctuality and attendance.
This may also include advice regarding reviewing attendance policies and procedures, which can be offered as additional support or independently.
Jen Griffin, Deputy Headteacher Bowker Vale Primary School
It was really useful to have One Education quality assure our attendance systems and procedures. The Attendance Adviser also provided direct support with a number of parents, adding another layer to our support for families
Using your information and evidence, one of our experienced attendance advisers can review and prepare all necessary documentation for any statutory action to a professional standard that is ready for submission to any local authority. This could include requesting penalty notices for absence or to pursue legal proceedings.
We work within your local authority's procedures and in partnership with them, to aide a productive outcome.
Our Education Welfare & Safeguarding initiative to support attendance throughout the year and allay any safeguarding concerns.
This can be targeted specifically at the start of a new term or during school holidays to ensure that families receive support during periods away from school, and preparing for return. Extra support may also be required at key times throughout the year, such as, before and during exam time and the transition from primary to secondary school.
During the holidays, let us help you get ahead by:
- Continuing your safeguarding support
- Arranging appointments with parents
- Undertaking home visits, to promote your school’s ethos and attendance messages
- Following up discussions, agreements and targets that you have set
- Reminding parents of return to school dates
- Supporting families where there are attendance safeguarding or transition concerns.
During Term Time
- Continuing your safeguarding support
- Emphasising school messages regarding expectations for exams or study
- Supporting a short-term initiative such as blitzes in school.
A full record of the interventions will be provided subsequently.
