Exploring the Reading Curriculum (All 3 Virtual Sessions)
Contents
Teaching Reading effectively requires knowledge of not only the mechanics of reading but also comprehension, fluency and of course, the power of reading for pleasure.
These online courses will support staff to improve their subject knowledge; develop their approaches to teaching reading and encourage reflection. Using engaging high-quality texts, the sessions will delve deeply into best practice. Delegates are welcome to book on to the full three day programme, or choose to attend the sessions individually according to need.
Session One: 20 January 2021
Session Two: 28 April 2021
Session Three: 02 July 2021
Session One will focus on best practice in the teaching of Reading, looking at using whole class and small group approaches using the One Education Reading Gems system.
Session Two will focus on how to teach specific reading skills such as inference, retrieval and comparison; exploring subject knowledge and a wealth of ideas for strategies and activities.
Session Three will focus on how to instil a reading culture in school, discussing how to encourage reading throughout the curriculum and the impact of a focus on reading for pleasure.
Each session will provide a wealth of activities and ideas which can be used in the classroom. Delegates will receive a resource pack and be encouraged to complete follow up tasks between sessions to embed new ideas into their practice.
These virtual sessions will be recorded so you can access the training at a later date, if you are unable to attend live.
