COVID-19 webinar series for schools
Schools are facing unprecedented times during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers and Leaders are working continuously and are doing everything they can to provide a safe, supportive learning environment in school and online for children.
As a thank you for the huge undertaking that schools have coped with, we are offering a whole week of free CPD for the whole school. The webinars focus on supporting pupils, staff and the wider community during, and after COVID-19 and include subjects such as: The Recovery Curriculum, Mental Health and wellbeing, SEND, Autism, Looked After Children, Appraisals, Teaching and Learning, Governance, Payroll, recruitment, HR concerns and much more!

Webinar 1a: Safeguarding Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic
Delivered by Jess Lane & Sophie James; Advisers for Education Welfare and Safeguarding. This 7-minute briefing will cover the following topics: What does safeguarding look like today and why is it so important during the current pandemic? What are the barriers and challenges when safeguarding children now? We will look at the roles and responsibilities of staff, and provide a safeguarding checklist to ensure everything is being done, solutions to barriers/issues and finally information regarding referrals and signposting throughout this time.
Webinar 1b: Supervision for Safeguarding: why it’s important more than ever during COVID-19
Delivered by James Traynor and Alyson Knowles; Advisers for Education Welfare and Safeguarding. During this 7-minute briefing we will discuss the importance of professional supervision. What is the definition of supervision and how can we break it down in to its different forms. We will discuss the benefits of supervision for education and safeguarding professionals, placing it in the context of statutory guidance and finally focus upon forms of supervision to promote learning, reflection and wellbeing in a safeguarding context.
Webinar 1c: Pupil Attendance - What you need to know during COVID-19
Delivered by Karen McCaul, Specialist Team Leader for Education Welfare and Safeguarding and Christine Boden, Senior Adviser for Education Welfare and Safeguarding. Schools have been provided with so much information and guidance recently that sometimes it is hard to be clear on what to do in practice. In these 7 minutes we will guide you through this regarding pupil’s attendance at schools and how to ensure you are following the guidelines and delivering best practice.
Webinar 2: The importance of maintaining high standards of Safer Recruitment and the Single Central Record (SCR) during COVID-19 and beyond
Delivered by Evette Hudson, HR Manager and Chloe Lyon, HR Adviser. A webinar prepared by Evette Hudson and Chloe Lyon based on their extensive knowledge of safer recruitment and ongoing safeguarding checks, in line with the statutory guidance 'Keeping Children Safe in Education 2019 (KCSIE)'. We will cover the importance of maintaining your school's processes for safer recruitment and the SCR as well as discussing the challenges you may face due to the COVID-19 pandemic
Webinar 3: Health & Safety Essentials for Re-building your School Community during and after COVID-19
Delivered by Ian Hutchings, MD & Founder at Vita Safety. A concise and pragmatic video to help senior leadership teams:

Webinar 4: Payrolls must continue despite lock-down but what have the changes been?
Delivered by Audrey North, Payroll Operational Manager. Pay for all your school staff is a MUST and lockdown hasn't changed that but there have been some important deadlines throughout COVID-19 so far and some more looming. We talk to bust some myths and talk facts about how payroll providers can support you with ensuring your staff are correctly paid during this time of change, including pay rises, year-end and furlough.
Webinar 5: Effective governance in challenging circumstances
Delivered by Rob Merino (Head of Governor Services), Mary Arnold (School Development and Governance Associate) and Ruth Dolan (NLG and Governance Associate). As schools move to carrying out a range of activities online, school leaders and governors will have to get used to working in different ways. This session considers how to make virtual meetings as effective as face-to-face meetings and provides hints and advice on a range of matters including:
- The most inclusive and effective way to prepare for and run virtual meetings;
- How Governing Boards can continue to meet their responsibilities for safeguarding and ensuring that the needs of vulnerable children are met;
- How governors can support school leaders as schools work through the issues for the wider opening of schools.
