Providing strategic direction & holding leaders to account
The landscape for schools over 2020/21 presents significant challenge. This session aims to identify some of the key challenges ahead as governing boards start to develop their annual strategic plan and looks at some practical strategies to support the development of an effective governance monitoring programme over the new academic year.
Emerging ‘lessons from lockdown’ can help us to review how best we can hold our school leaders to account in rapidly changing circumstances. Committee and Link Governor activities, individual Governor research, and school visits may all look very different over the year ahead. A fundamental review of the board’s monitoring programme will help support the focus, clarity and flexibility needed to maximise impact.
The presenters of this training bring together years of governance experience gained as a National Leader of Governance, a school improvement specialist and Head of governor services. The presenters have specific skills in the academies sector, chairing maintained schools, governance of federations, supporting interim management boards, reviewing and advising on governance arrangements in a variety of schools and academies.
