Transition to Year One (English focus)
As children move into Y1 it is essential that practice offers continuity from the EYFS, building on children’s learning experiences. The pressures of teaching of reading and writing can lead many resorting to overly formal teaching rather than teaching the way that children learn best. This course will examine effective ways to support the transition into Key Stage 1 through exploring elements of EYFS practice. The challenges of moving from an EYFS curriculum to the National Curriculum will be discussed. The focus of this course will be the teaching of English but cross curricular links will be made as we explore practical ideas for the Year One environment.
The course will cover:
- Practical ways to deal with the implications on planning and timetabling.
- Ideas to develop the Year One environment to suit the needs of your children -Opportunities to explore end of KS1 expectations in English and how to support children in their learning journey
- Explore how to build on children’s EYFS experiences in English, whilst ensuring children make progress
