Kickstarter Project – Universal Offer for Schools
Session one: Inspiring learning in Early Reading and Phonics. Tuesday 16th April 2024Â
This session will explore how to best support children to develop their early reading and phonics skills through stories, role play, effective environments and communication. Teaching effective early reading skills and vocabulary can positively impact a child’s life more so than their parent’s socioeconomic status – effective teaching of early reading can change lives. Participants will gain practical ideas to support young children in mastering the skills needed before they can become competent, fluent readers and how to develop literary rich environments, fostering a love of books and language for life.
Session two: Inspiring learning in Early Writing. Wednesday 24th April 2024Â
This session will build upon the first session where we explored early reading and phonics skills and consider how we can develop early writing skills. In addition to ensuring children are immersed in a literary rich environment, we also need to consider children’s physical ability to mark make or write. The workshop will explore ways we can engage children in developing gross and fine motor skills, dexterity, bilateral integration and, finally, holding and manipulating a writing tool. Participants will gain practical ideas to support young children in mastering the skills needed before they can become competent writers and at the same time, we can support children to write for a purpose and develop a passion for early writing and mark making.
Session three: Inspiring learning in Early Maths. Tuesday 30th April 2024
This session offers a holistic approach to fostering mathematical understanding in early childhood through play. We will explore the early concepts and skill development which support a child’s journey to becoming a mathematician. You will come away with ideas to integrate maths into your environment and a sense of empowerment in supporting children’s natural curiosity in exploring concepts, ideas and strategies that build mathematical foundations for life.
Session four: Inspiring Early learning through Metacognition and Learning Behaviour. Tuesday 7th May 2024Â
Delve into current research and strategies for evidence informed practice as we consider metacognitive processes in young minds. This session will provide practical tools to create supportive environments, alongside powerful interactions, that allow children to develop into thoughtful, creative, independent and self-regulated learners right from the start.
