Becoming a governor is an exciting but possibly daunting experience – we’re here to help you to understand your role and responsibilities, to provide some practical advice to help you get started and to signpost you to sources of ongoing information, advice, and guidance. This will support your ongoing journey to becoming an effective governor focussed on supporting
the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
Designed to meet the needs of all new governors across the Local Authority maintained and Academy Trust sectors – the programme will build participants’ knowledge of roles and responsibilities as set out in the Governance Competency Framework to develop understandings of the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed for effective governance.
It focuses on the key pieces of information and frameworks to enable new governors to begin to contribute, support, and challenge in the most effective way. The programme is delivered through a mix of individual off-line learning challenges and two interactive online sessions providing key information and practical exercises to help to embed learning with opportunities for questions and discussion.
You will need to attend both sessions to get a certificate. The second part will be online on 8th May 2024.
