Contractors provide services ranging from the performance of relatively simple tasks, such as maintenance of office equipment, to more hazardous activities, e.g. window cleaning, construction work or work with electrical systems A contractor is someone who schools can ask to do work and who is not an employee. Any school business manager or caretaker with responsibility for health and safety should be aware of their obligations both to the school and to the contractor. You may be used to having contractors on site but is there a possibility of becoming complacent? When this happens, accidents can occur.

This training will enable those involved directly or indirectly with contractors to understand;

• The selection criteria and checks required before contractors come onto site

• What the HSE expects of schools and contractors

• Why risk assessments and method statements are important

• Dos and don’ts when dealing with contractors.
