The Three Strands of Oracy Webinar Series
The Three Strands of Oracy Webinar Series is designed to help schools strengthen their approach to talk in the classroom. Across the sessions, we’ll explore the three key strands of the One Education Oracy Award – learning to talk, talking to learn, and learning about talk. Together, these strands provide a practical framework for embedding high-quality oracy practice that improves learning, builds confidence, and ensures every pupil’s voice is heard. Each webinar will share evidence-led strategies, classroom examples, and reflection points to support schools on their journey towards excellent oracy provision. Delegates can book on after the first date has passed as they can have a recording of any missed sessions by contacting events@oneeducation.co.uk.
Session 1: Learning to Talk – Tuesday 3rd February 2026
This session explores how we can support pupils to develop the skills and confidence needed to use their voices effectively for context, audience and purpose. We will look at practical ways to build vocabulary, plan and practise a range of talk modes, and establish routines that promote respectful, inclusive talk. By the end of the session, you will have strategies to help pupils become more confident speakers and listeners, laying strong foundations for communication across the curriculum.
Session 2: Talking to Learn – Tuesday 17th March 2026
In this session, we focus on the role of talk as a tool for learning. We’ll consider how high-quality dialogue helps pupils deepen understanding, solve problems, and think critically. Practical approaches such as questioning, scaffolding, and group discussion techniques will be shared, alongside examples of how talk can be embedded meaningfully into everyday teaching. You will leave with clear ideas to help pupils use talk to strengthen their learning across subjects.
Session 3: Learning About Talk – Tuesday 30th June 2026
This session looks at how we can make the features of effective talk explicit to pupils. We will explore strategies to help pupils reflect on how talk works, consider audience and purpose, and evaluate the effectiveness of their own and others’ communication. By the end, you will have practical tools to support pupils in developing a metacognitive awareness of talk, ensuring they can adapt their communication with confidence in different contexts.
Delegates can attend all three webinars for a discounted price of £75, or are able to book each webinar separately for £30 each (see single sessions). Delegates can book on after the first date has passed as they can have a recording of any missed sessions by contacting events@oneeducation.co.uk.
Oracy Award Schools will automatically have access to the webinars for free.
Delegates will be sent a webinar link the day before the session.
