The audit tool guides you to consider practice in eight key areas to prioritise first in order to enhance inclusion:

Leadership and management
Settings have a clear whole setting strategic plan for mental health and wellbeing of all children and young people, parents/carers and staff which is supported and championed by the leadership team.
Ethos and environment
Settings have an environment and ethos that supports a positive culture around mental health and wellbeing which promotes and values inclusion and diversity.
Curriculum, teaching and learning
Through the curriculum, children and young people are equipped with skills to help them to understand and manage their mental health and wellbeing. Coping skills are promoted and supported. This is evidence-based and delivered consistently across the setting.
Student voice and participation
Children and young people’s voice and pupil involvement is encouraged and influences decisions made in their setting. There is a strong partnership between staff and pupils involved.
Staff wellbeing and development
There is a whole systems approach to mental health and wellbeing through a confident workforce who are equipped to develop children and young people’s skills and meet their needs within mental health and wellbeing. Staff’s mental health and wellbeing is prioritised and supported.
Parent voice and participation
Parents and carers are engaged with the setting and willingly access support to increase their understanding of mental health and wellbeing. It will be evident that parent voice and partnership working is valued.
Identifying need and monitoring impact
Settings will have systems in place to monitor mental health and wellbeing of their children and young people and the impact of interventions on offer.
Targeted support and appropriate referrals
There is a full understanding of the local offer for children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing. Robust processes are in place and understood which follow the referral pathway with relevant partners.
